A Kissing Hummingbird

"Don't be surprised if one day
A hummingbird invades
Through the door of your home
Gives you a kiss and leaves...
It was I who sent the kiss
To kill this desire
It's been too long since I saw you
And ah! how I miss you..." 

My project this week was a needle felted hummingbird, inspired by one of my favorite songs from back home. I should explain, too, that in Portuguese, a hummingbird is called "beija-flor" (flower-kisser). This was super fun to make! Choose a combination of bright colors and let your hands play until you get satisfactory results. See Needle Felted Gnome for more details on how to sculpt with felt.

First I made the body of the hummingbird, then carved each wing separately and attached them to the body using a star needle. A few more jabs here and there until the desired shape was formed. Then I attached other colors to the belly area. Finally, I added the eyes and the beak. For the beak, I first painted in black a toothpick, inserted it in the head and used more black and green felt to give it a nice finishing.

With a sewing needle, insert a transparent nylon wire and hang your little kisser next to a window, ready to fly away whenever you want to send a kiss to someone you love and miss...

Pensando nessa música favorita, que me acompanha sempre como um disco arranhado bom demais para ser descartado, meu projeto dessa semana foi um beija-flor esculpido em feltro. Super gostoso de fazer! Escolha uma combinação de cores brilhantes e deixe suas mãos brincarem até o resultado ficar satisfatório. Ver Needle Felted Gnome para mais detalhes sobre como esculpir com feltro. 

Primeiro fiz o corpo do beija-flor, depois esculpi cada asa separadamente e anexei-as ao corpo utilizando a agulha de ponta-estrela. Mais umas alfinetadas aqui e ali até ficar no formato desejado, antes de anexar as cores da barriga. Por último, adicionei os olhos e o bico. Para o bico, primeiro pintei de preto um palito de dente, inseri o mesmo na cabeça e utilizei mais feltro verde e preto para realizar o acabamento. 

Com um agulha de costura, insira um fio de nylon transparente e pendure seu pequeno beijoqueiro ao lado de uma janela, pronto para quando você precisar mandar um beijo e matar a saudade de alguém...
